Running between dunes and mountains,
in the beautiful Moroccan desert ...
How to combine passion and values?
It is by answering this question that the Trans Zagora Trail Morocco was born. It’s a race of extremities : stepping into this adventure is accepting the extreme desert challenge but is also showing solidarity and supporting the local community and different local schools.
Nestled in the Draa-Tafilalet, at the gates of the majestic Sahara, Zagora is a region accustomed to international competitions with the famous Paris-Dakar tracks. With its ocher and sand landscapes, it is an ideal playground for runners of the extreme. The climate and the landscape are ideal for a sports competition.
We invite you to join us in the Desert of Zagora on a 200km race covered in 6 stages. Crossing the desert mountains you will reach the beautiful sand dunes of Chagaga.
Our entire team together with Mohamed Ahansal will support and motivate you from the bivouac Ahansal until the final at Zagora City Center.
Zagora is a city located in the region of Drâa-Tafilalet, in southern Morocco.
The city dates from the French Protectorate of which it was one of the administrative centers. However, it was already inhabited well before that, since it was from it that started the great expedition to Timbuktu in 1591.
At the gates of the desert, Zagora offers a multitude of landscapes all more exceptional than the others. With a huge palm grove, the city is surrounded by many ancient kasbahs. The climate of the region is ideal in winter the temperature is around 20 ° C, but extremely hot in summer, with temperatures up to 45 ° C.
We have chosen to organize the race in March for climatic reasons.
Zagora is located at the foot of the Zagora Mountain, some 150km from Ouarzazate and 350km south of Marakech. Become very tourist, Zagora is THE city of passage of tourists wanting to discover the Great South, you will find besides all that you need: banks, pharmacies, trade, hospital...
Our camp, Bivouac Ahansal, is 35km south of Zagora. A camp between mountains, plantations and sand dunes...
Mohamad Ahansal, a great champion of the Marathon des Sables, is an experienced runner.
«Mohamad has lived all his childhood as a no-man in the Sahara.
Coming from a poor background, he did not have the experience required for the race, and the right equipment, until he met Patrick Bauer who allowed him to take his first steps on the Marathon des Sables. For Patrick Bauer, Mohamad and his brother were «the treasure of Morocco with a true sports spirit».
For more than 14 years, the two brothers have dominated the Marathon des Sables by winning it alternately. In 2002, Mohamad and Lahcen were decorated by King Mohammed VI of Morocco for their performances on this race
In addition to his 4 wins and 7 second places at the Marathon des Sables, Mohamad holds the Guinness World Records title for his fastest desert crossing. In 2010, he won the Marathon des Sables by completing a flawless course, winning all stages!»
Today, Mohamad Ahansal puts his knowledge and his love for the race at your disposal, and introduces you to his native region, Zagora. Because of his experience, he is one of the best places to organize a tailor-made trail! Knowing his region perfectly and the extreme conditions of the desert, he will ensure your safety and advise you and share his experience to make this trail in the best possible conditions.
